About the Hammered Dulcimer
Mentioned in the Old Testament of the Bible, the dulcimer is related to the psaltery, zither, cymbolum, and is the ancestor of the harpsichord and the piano.

Basically, the dulcimer is a box designed to enhance the sound of the several courses of string (wire) arranged over the top.  Newer dulcimers are played on both sides of the treble (left) bridge and the left side of the bass (right) bridge.  Small, light hammers are used to produce the music.
